Onkyo is famed for being first out of the traps with desirable new features, and the TX-NR807 is certainly no exception. This is the first receiver under £1,000 to feature Dolby ProLogic IIz and Audyssey DSX processing.
Opinions on the merits of both formats and the need to move rear-back speakers to front-height or front-wide position are divided (largely between me and the HCC editor) but I am right and anyone who disagrees is wrong. Audyssey DSX and Dolby ProLogic IIz are a revelation in home cinema sound and a must have for any modern set up. And now Onkyo has made this available in a stunningly specified THX Select2 receiver all for £800. Thank you Team Onk!

The so called NEW 'Hieght Speakers' being introduced
Andrew Potter (not verified) - 20 November 2009 - 7:02pmWOW Richard, did you say Onkyo first out of the traps? And did you also say Height Channels? ... Yes you did ... well Whoopi, I have had them for the best part of 10 YEARS!!!!!!!! Funny isn't it? When they first came out on an AV Amp (Yamaha AV fans will know them as front effect or presence speakers) they were discribed as a gimmick and were pretty much dismissed by reviewers as a serious feature.
Umm? Strange that... as just about EVERYBODY who has had a demo of my kit or watched a movie at my place) were pretty much blown away by the size of the soundfield that these extra cannels produced! (Mind you, I must say, I am running an M&K 8.2 suuround system!).
Then suddenly some 10 YEARS later, other manufacturers start to introduce them on their new AV Amps as a feature and name them height speakers (how original...NOT!) and suddenly the makers and all you reviewers start raving about them.
All I can say is... those guys at Yamaha must be laughing their socks off.
New feature arrives on AV Amps? Don't make me laugh!
Oh and please... no handbags at six paces!
