It’s arguably the most eagerly anticipated series finale in modern TV history, and certainly one of the jewels in Sky's programming crown, so why did the satellite broadcaster transmit the first of the final two episodes of Battlestar Galactica in plain old stereo?
The critically-acclaimed show, which is made in Dolby Digital 5.1, was transmitted in the UK by Sky1HD in a two-channel rather than multi-channel format; a significant disappointment to BSG fans with home cinema systems. Could it have been a broadcast foul up by engineers in Osterley Park? Was the channel short-changed with a sub-standard master tape supplied from the US? Or is it part of a bigger scheme to make us buy BSG Blu-ray sets when they appear? We demand to be told.
Frustratingly, the show has been beset with sound problems on Sky, with some episodes broadcast with a significant loss of sound. Whatever the reason, let’s hope that the satcaster gets its act together for the final, feature-length episode, which airs Tuesday March 24.
