LG ships first THX certified LED LCD TV range

HCC News Team's picture

LG is shipping its first LED LCD TVs with THX certification. The LH90 series come in 42-, 47- and 55-inch sizes and will initially be available only in the US, although an unconfirmed Autumn launch in the UK seems likely.

Part of a wider LED screen initiative from the SKorean brand, the new LG models have full-array LED backlighting, 240Hz TruMotion picture processing and promise a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio.

As with LG’s THX plasma screens, the models offer a one-touch THX preset which automatically optimises colour, black level and other picture settings for movie watching. Connections include four HDMI v1.3 inputs with Deep Color, two HD component video inputs, USB 2.0 and PC D-sub.

LG US’s senior vice president for marketing and strategy, Peter Reiner, says the sets ‘send a clear message to consumers about LG's commitment to picture quality and innovation.’

These sound great but...

it's LG.  If you'd told me it was Samsung I'd be slapping down a pre-order as soon as someone starts listing it for sale over here but LG?

I'm wondering how poor the THX spec is for screens that LG have managed to get certified (I'll believe that LG have finally stepped up and produced top end kit when I see reviews from reliable sources to confirm it)

Actually, LG are putting the likes of Sony "on notice"...

To "cerebros" - I think your bias regarding LG is based on a very outdated impression - LG have not become the 3rd biggest CE manufacturer in the world, by mere "accident"! I happen to own a 2008 model LG 42" Plasma HDTV, and, so far, it's been nothing short of brilliant!

I'm sure the fact that their

I'm sure the fact that their stuff is normally a couple of hundred quid cheaper than the upper tier manufacturers had nothing to do with that 3rd place...

Ripping Us Off!!

Maybe LG are showing how much the "bigger Boys" are ripping us off, and are happier to make a modest profit rather than an imoral profit to pay for the top mens wages and golfing holidays!! And no, I don't think they are making their tv's with inferior components. Or maybe it has something to do with the fact that they have mastered the process of lean manufacturing, and are more cost effective. :)
