UK AV fans will get a closer look at Full HD 3D this month when Panasonic embarks on a nationwide 3D roadshow.
The brand is deploying three mobile Full HD 3D theatres to shopping malls and other locations, to give hungry consumers a taste of the tech that it will be arriving in UK stores next year.
The 3D Roadshow will take place in nine cities across England, and will feature clips and movie trailers – James Cameron's Avatar is certain to be one of them. Panasonic will also be demonstrating its latest Neo PDP TVs, along with VieraCast internet streaming.
Marketing Director Andrew Denham says: ‘2010 will be the year that the 3D experience will be available in the living room, and Panasonic is at the forefront of these technological innovations. Our Panasonic 3D plasma technology is the only one to provide 60 full frames per second for each eye, which is the best 3D technology currently available. The 3D Roadshow will demonstrate our commitment to continued innovation in this area, and will showcase the way these technologies will revolutionise the way we experience entertainment in the home – from movies to television to gaming.’
Panasonic UK MD Keith Evans adds: ‘We are really looking forward to getting out there and showcasing the future of home entertainment directly to the general public. By visiting so many cities, we hope to engage with consumers from across the country and demonstrate not only the potential of these technologies but also the incredible 3D content that is being created.’

BD Roadshow
cineman - 2 October 2009 - 4:29pmNine cities? With two roadshow's in Birmingham and two in Kent out of the nine, I hardly call that nationwide! Obviously they want to save fuel in these days of crunchy-credit! What about the rest of us un-BD-educated people? Now I can't go buying a Panny BD3D player that I know nothing about, can I?
Er, 0/10 for geography.
Alan Smithee (not verified) - 2 October 2009 - 8:56pmEr, 0/10 for geography. Lakeside is in Essex, not Kent.
And why the apostrophe in
SteveinHoSM (not verified) - 3 October 2009 - 2:08pmAnd why the apostrophe in the word "roadshows"?

Gatwick North ?

Now there's a great place for a roadshow........NOT!
Let's think this through.
You've just spent 8hrs + in a cramped plane with people you wouldn't even p** on if they were on fire, then you trudge 2 miles to baggage claim, only to find yours is still at your hotel many miles away. Next you battle your way through customs getting strange come hither looks from the inspectors cause you look like a terrorist. by this time you're tired, angry, hot & sweaty(the natural demeanor of a terrorist).
So.. after all this, what's the next thing on your mind...
Do you,
a: want to get home asap to vent your anger on the holiday company & get your baggage back. Then have a nice cuppa & try to sleep off the jet lag.
b: Decide to join another queue for an hour or so, so you can have your luggholes blasted out by some over excited rep whose decided the volume switch is just that (off or full on),all this while your poor bloodshot eyes are seared with a contrast ratio so whacked up that it's about 6,000,000:1.
Nice one Panasonic your gonna get some really impartial well informed feedback from that audience. Also after spending hundreds (if not thousands) on a holiday, do you honestly believe anyone is going to part with a few more thousand pounds after such an ill prepared (from the persons point of view) tech demo.
Luv your products, have many of them. I also luv tech, but i for one will wait for the moment.
Besides,what's wrong with 2 D.
Not nationwide & Not Full 1080p 60fps to each eye
Sir Alan Smithee (not verified) - 7 October 2009 - 8:00amNationwide means to the entire nation, but the tour is only to England, and no other part of the UK.
"Our Panasonic 3D plasma technology is the only one to provide 60 full frames per second for each eye" - but their/the BDA's 3D Blu-ray players won't be able to decode that, so their Plasma TV will just be either repeating the same frames/fields or upconverting.
So the "60 full frames per second for each eye" is really false advertising, seeing as Panasonic know that their/the BDA's 3D Blu-ray players, and no broadcast system will be able to deliver that - but they don't point that out do they.

Hi there, Do you really
Alan Smithee - 20 October 2009 - 12:57pmHi there,
Do you really think that they would put this type of stand in arrivals??? I would assume that this would be in the departure lounge which in my opinion is an ideal location!!
When I go on holiday I dont go to the airport by choice - you have to go there - and you have to check in 2-3 hours before. This can mean 2 hours sitting in a departure lounge with nothing to do! If it was a choice of sitting around waiting for a flight or having an exciting 3D experience to get involved in, I know which one I would choose!
Also I think you are overlooking the audience - if people are going on holiday it means they have money to do so - hence they have disposable income - hence they have money to spend on expensive products! They are also in a relaxed frame of mind, a little frivolous and in a confined environment with nowhere else to go desparate for something to entertain them!
Also business people travel for work from airports - where else can you target business people with 2 hours worth of free time?? I cant think of anywhere!! And who have the type of money to spend on these kind of products... Business people!!!
So I think they have in fact made a brilliant decision!!
Cabot Circus
Alan Smithee (not verified) - 2 November 2009 - 8:03amWell this is not a good sign, as there was no demo in Cabot Circus last weekend. I spoke to the Information desk in Cabot Circus, and they confirmed that any company will need to get prior authorisation to be there. I am not happy as I made a special journey to see the demo.
