Samsung has shown its first 55in Full HD 3D LCD panel at the IMID 2009 display conference in Seoul. The prototype 240Hz screenworks with IR-controlled active 3D glasses which rapidly shutter between the left and right eye, and is designed with the upcoming 3D Blu-ray specification in mind.

Samsung executives claim that the display, which utilizes alternate-frame sequencing to create a different perspective for each peeper, eliminates all motion blur.  No commercial release date has been announced. More details are expected at the 2010 CES in January.

In related news, the company has announced that it is to invest 2.6 trillion won in an LCD fabrication plant in China. The facility will be the first it's built outside of South Korea, and will produce TV panels between 32in and 47in in size.

The factory will be built in the Chinese city of Suzhou, where Samsung already has an LCD assembly plant. Samsung currently operates six LCD production facilities in SKorea.
