Vivitek's LED DLP will be a UK firstCalifornia-based Vivitek has announced what it claims will be the world's first 1080p LED Home Cinema DLP projector. The H9080FD will be on show at the London CEDIA Expo later this month, but only to industry insiders who get an invite to a nearby hotel location.

LED DLP technology has created a lot of excitement because it seems to overcome many of the disadvantages of single-chip DLP projection. Instead of a rotating colour wheel it will use an innovative LED module, negating the rainbow effect and reducing noise and heat; a sophisticated LED-driving algorithm emulates the function of the colour wheel and dynamic black shutter LED lighting should also give the viewer an impression of a much higher video brightness than a conventional mercury lamp.

The H9080FD is also said to feature an instant on-and-off function thanks to the immediate full brightness response of the LED module.

David Chiu, President of Vivitek, said "This ground-breaking projector brings a powerful, clean, and pure signal for non-distorted, high-quality performance. The brightness and HD imaging are unmatched by any of the other LED units I have seen. Although the H9080FD DLP projector has a brightness specification of only 800 ANSI lumen, the saturated image and 100,000:1 contrast ratio give users the impression of a far higher figure".

The Full HD (1920x1080) projector also claims low-energy and low-power consumption features, a 20,000-hour LED module lifespan provides (up to 10 times longer than a conventional projector lamp) and easy to change bayonet-type lenses to suit the throw distance of the installation required.

Vivitek has appointed RAPESCO AV as its UK distributor for this model and others in the company's product range, but there's no firm information yet on availability dates or prices.
