Xbox 360 3D camera to take motion fight to Wii

HCC News Team's picture

Microsoft will show a 3D camera for the Xbox 360 at the upcoming E3 Expo. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the new device would allow for the development of Wii-style games for the 360, without requiring players to wield plastic tennis rackets or waggle handsets.
The camera (pictured left) is based on Z-Cam technology developed by 3DV systems, a company which Microsoft recently acquired . Unlike standard web cams, the Z-Cam can perceive depth as well as motion. However, don’t expect it to debut until sometime in 2010.

Why would I want to buy

Why would I want to buy another cam from Microsoft when they did nothing for the first cam they brought out!?

Agreed

They need to show some killer games that use this tech (doesn't have to be a full on game like Gears of War, Ghost Recon etc).

After having played on the wii I've come to the conclusion that gestures aren't everything. I wouldn't want to play an fps with wii controller for that long - arm strain city.

The best way would be for these technologies to be used in tandem with existing controller e.g. flight-sim where you can move your head in different directions to look in different directions.
