Purveyor of high-quality Universal DVD upscalers, Oppo, has shown the world’s first standalone Super Audio CD compatible Blu-ray player at the CEDIA Expo in Denver. The brand’s BDP-83 is certain to beat Sony’s first dedicated SACD BD player, tentatively scheduled for 2009, to market.

Oppo says that its model will be a Profile 2.0 machine and will feature ABT 2010 de-interlacing and scaling silicon for both DVD and Blu-Ray discs.

A spokesman said the company is currently looking into the feasibility of making the player compatible with the DVD-Audio format as well. The BDP-83 is expected to ship in the US before the end of the year, priced at around $700.

The first generation PlayStation 3 also offered SACD playback alongside Blu-ray, but this model was phased out as the company reduced production costs for the console.
