Sky to screen first hi-def Simpsons episode, after that it's back to 4:3 SD for Homer and Co.

The Simpsons is going high def! Fox has confirmed that the long-running animation will air its first HD episode in February. Sky One HD will screen the show the same day as its US airing, February 15 and then repeat it on Feb 27.

Although official tech details are currently non-existent, we’d also expect this to be the first series episode to be screened in widescreen.

Unfortunately it seems like this HD outing is a one-off. When it’s done, it’s back to 4:3 SD for the residents of Springfield.

The story is a What if yarn: What if… Homer had been elected class president in high school. We say: What if…The Simpsons got out of the Eighties and dragged its televisual presentation up to date full time. The show is now in its 20th season.
