Tesco introduces hi-def TV zones into 60 UK stores, hopes to convert unsavvy to HD

It may be the nation’s favourite destination for groceries, but Tesco doesn’t immediately spring to mind as the place to see and buy hi-def. But that could be about to change. The firm has introduced branded LG HD Zones into 60 Tesco stores across the UK.

SKorean outfit LG hopes the initiative will bring home the quality benefits of buying into hi-def to a broader audience, as well as boost its market share; each zone has a range of LG TVs hooked up to an HD signal source.
George Mead, the brand's UK’s marketing manager for digital display, says he’s eager to get across the concept of  high definition to the AV-unsavvy: ‘Sixty per cent of Brits still do not own an HD TV,' he says 'and most are unaware of the differences between 1080p and HD Ready sets.'

As well as demonstrate the improved picture from HD Mead hopes the zones will communicate LG's eco-message. ‘The inclusion of ambient light sensors into most of our 2009 range of TVs, called Intelligent Sensor, automatically adjusts to light conditions, and optimises the picture quality while saving up to 62 per cent of power consumption,’ he declares. OK, we're convinced. Throw a couple into our trolley.
