Is Pioneer about to announce its withdrawal from the global TV business? Japanese financial journal The Nikkei has reported that the company has decided to cut and run from the ailing worldwide TV market, abandoning its critically lauded Kuro screens in the process.
Such a move would be a surprise, as the company had only recently shown its latest generation of picture processing technology to HCC, dubbed Fuga. However worse than expected trading figures seem to have dashed hopes of breaking even in what has become a floundering business Pioneer has been forecasting a net loss of 78 billion yen; 27 billion yen is down to losses in its home electronics division.
Instead Pioneer looks likely to stake its future on car electronics, a division which currently accounts for more than half of its revenue.
There's no official word yet from Pioneer on the rumours, however the company is expected to confirm major restructuring plans when it releases its annual financial figures this coming Thursday.
