As Californian ban looms, majority of Americans oppose outlawing big TVs to save energy

The blazing row over California’s proposed ban on large screen TVs continues to burn bright across the pond - and there seems to be little public support for the Golden State's green initiative.
According to a poll carried out by Rasmussen Reports 66 per cent of Americans oppose any law that would effectively ban the sale of big-screen televisions to save energy.

World's most advanced LCD TV factory opens for business, Sharp to push super-large LEDs

The world’s most advanced LCD manufacturing plant has opened for business. Sharp’s new facility, based in Sakai City, Osaka, is the first in the world to produce 10th-generation glass substrates, and promises to usher in a new era of super-large screen displays.

Panasonic given green light for Sanyo takeover by Japan's fair trade watchdog

Panasonic’s multi-billion Yen takeover of rival Sanyo has been given the green light by Japan’s Fair Trade Commission. Full HD 3D spec to be announced in December, Panasonic says it will be first to launch kit

The final specification for 3D Blu-ray is expected to be published in December, the Blu-ray Disc Association announced at its IFA press conference in Berlin. New power laws could outlaw largescreen TVs in California within months, 3D could also suffer

California’s threat to limit the size of TVs consumers can buy looks likely to become a bizarre reality this Autumn. The California Energy Commission (CEC) is expected to publish its new regulations on power consumption within two weeks, and after a 45-day comment period, they could become law.

Sony claims annual CO2 emissions cut by 100,000 tons

Sony says that it has managed to reduced its global CO2 emissions by approximately 100,000 tons over the last financial year. The achievement comes on the back of several company-wide environmental initiatives. 'Through continuous energy efficiency efforts, European operations have reduced CO2 emissions by approximately 90 per cent between 2000 and 2008,' added the company.  read more »

Hitachi loses interest in consumer electronics as it plots to save the planet

Is Hitachi walking away from the consumer electronics market? That certainly seems to be one conclusion, following a conference given to Japanese media and analysts by the Corporation’s new Representative Executive Officer, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Takashi Kawamura.

Our high-efficiency speakers can save the planet and reduce electricity bills, says Klipsch

It’s not just TV manufacturers who are pushing the green agenda. US loudspeaker giant Klipsch says that if AV fans switched to the brand’s high-efficiency speakers, they could reduce their amplifier’s electricity consumption by as much as 75 per cent.

Sharp's LCD losses mount, says it will combat red ink with green tech

Sharp is the latest Japanese major to buckle under growing global economic pressure. The LCD innovator has downgraded its earnings forecast to a net loss of 130 billion yen, for the financial year ended March 31, and is hunkering down for a stormy 2009.
The mounting losses, caused by both recession and internal restructuring, will mean the closure of its smaller panel production lines.
